According to the company, the "refresh" of its Redmond headquarters will include "18 new buildings, 6.7 million square feet of renovated workspace, $150 million in transportation infrastructure improvements, public spaces, sports fields and green space."

When it's all done -- in five to seven years -- the campus will have enough room for 47,000 Microsoft employees, with the possibility to expand for 8,000 more people.

The campus will be optimized for pedestrians and bikes, while cars will all be parked underground.

Microsoft also plans to change the exterior of the campus for the better. This includes a 2-acre open plaza with enough room for 12,000 people, as well as running and walking trails, facilities for soccer and cricket, and retail space.

The company recently built three modernly equipped treehouses at its Redmond HQ, with the intention to connect its employees with nature.
