After Romeo the dog and HorrorGioia the cat, it was time for Pietro, another cat, to be rescued from the rubble of Amatrice, central Italy, 16 days after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake.

Firefighters yesterday found Pietro, who was believed to be dead, when they heard a weak miaowing while accompanying the cat's owners to recover personal belongings from their house.

"He's in serious condition, but alive. He's called Pietro," said Italian animal protection agency ENPA, which is assisting animals rescued from the quake's rubble.
