【Blackmail (2023) Hindi Web Series】
Picture this: it's the year 2035 and Blackmail (2023) Hindi Web Seriesyour in-home AI assistant shuffles through your digital archives to play you something sweet on a Sunday morning. The song it selects happens to be a special one, transporting you back to the hot and chaotic summer of 2018.
That's the power of a "song of the summer:" a track that's so entwined with your memories that it instantly brings you back to the hottest days of the year.
SEE ALSO: The pink coffin pool toy is this summer's most relatable accessoryTechnically speaking, the illustrious title of "song of the summer" is usually given to a ubiquitous bop that's ruthlessly played all season long (like "Despacito," for example.)
But as we're living in lawless times, I challenge you ignore anyone who tries to tell you what *should* be your personal song of the summer. Forget the lists, the charts, and the radio. Take control of your own destiny by doing the work -- it's fun work, I promise -- to figure out which track will mark the summer of 2018 for you in the years to come. Here are all the factors to consider:
When was it released?
First, you should nail down the parameters of your official song selection process.
Though you might feel differently, I firmly believe that potential summer bops really start rolling out in March. While March still screams winter weather, spring is right around the corner and the songs that conquer your heart in the spring are often the ones that make it to the semi-finals when picking contenders for summer playlists.
In March of 2018, DJ Khaled dropped "Top Off" with Beyoncé and Jay-Z and Drake's "God's Plan" began its reign — all while Zedd and Maren Morris' early hit "The Middle" peaked on the Billboard charts. Lil Dicky had a huge hit in March as well with "Freaky Friday." These tracks kicked off multiple months of releases, and could be solid song-of-summer options alongside tracks released during the summer season.
"As we're living in lawless times, I challenge you ignore anyone who tries to tell you what your song of summer should be."
Don't forget the surprise drops
Dropping new music without warning has become the quintessential power move of our time. This year, Kanye West produced 5 albums, including one of his own. Drake gave us 25 songs, and Beyoncé and Jay-Z surprised us with a joint album. Future released a mixtape, and Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj joined forces on a couple of songs— and each have albums coming out this summer as well. Your song of the summer could be from one of these major label artists, but give yourself room to change your mind. Who knows what else could be coming?
Visuals matter
Sure, the weather is great and there are plenty of outdoor activities to do during the months of June, July, and August. But if you're blessed with central air conditioning -- or a leaky window unit like me -- you're going to be indoors a lot. There's only so much heat one can take, which means you may find yourself in front of a screen from time to time, a prime place to enjoy the music video for your chosen song of summer.
When it comes to song of summer selection, take into account the presentation factor. The right music video to watch on repeat makes any indoor AC break 100 percent better than it is already.
Are there memes to accompany your pick?
Hopefully you're in for a fun summer, and your chosen song of summer will reflect that. Coincidentally, memes are fun to make and fun to double-tap and retweet. Sometimes the best song-of-summer contenders inspire quality memes (and more often than not, that's what ups their appeal.)

Drake's album Scorpionhas a million options for song of the summer, but fans and followers alike have gravitated towards "In My Feelings." The song's inspired its own dance, with everyone from teens to NFL players joining in on the "In My Feelings" challenge. Similarly, Beyoncé and Jay-Z's "APESHIT" sparked a meme anda challenge, and while it doesn't have a meme per say, Ella Mai's "Boo'd Up" has gained traction on social media in its own right.
Beyond web culture, new films like Hearts Beat Loud offer up prime summer anthems. Peep the soundtracks of your favorite summer flicks for potential options.
Now, feel free to throw all these guidelines away
If your song of the summer is a track from the 1950s, that's cool! If it's from your friend's band, that's cool, too. There are no song of summer rules, and if you don't want to think too much about it, that's fine, too. Do what feels right, play whatever you want, and remember to wear sunscreen out there.
