"He [McKay] said, I've got to find somebody who can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody, so he went 'that's gotta be Bale, innit.'" Bale said.

"Thank you, and for all the competition I'll be cornering the market on charisma-free assholes. What do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That could be good."

Bale, who gained 45 pounds (20 kilograms) for the role, told The Hollywood Reporterthat he compiled more than 100 pages of notes on Cheney.

The actor never met the former vice president, however, forbidden by lawyers to make any contact with Cheney.

"I would greatly have liked to have met with him, if only to have him insult me and kick me out of his house. To me, that's honorable," Bale told the publication.
