The The Liar (2014)movement to diversify the tech industry just got a powerful new supporter.
The Internet Association — a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying group that represents Google, Facebook, Netflix, Uber, and dozens of other tech companies on public policy issues — is hiring a director of diversity and inclusion.

The job listing notes the association's initiatives on "artificial intelligence, algorithms, privacy, advertising, and other technology specific topics." The trade group lobbies for those policy issues as well as net neutrality, copyright, trade, and the sharing economy, for example.
The job description accompanied a letter to Democratic Reps. Emanuel Cleaver and Bonnie Watson Coleman, sent on Tuesday. Politico first reported the news.
"IA and our member companies are committed to improving diversity in our industry and as the industry’s leading trade association we are are creating a new role to work on diversity, technology, and workforce policy. The new Director of Diversity and Inclusion Policy at IA will lead and coordinate a range of initiatives to better engage on these issues at the local, state, and federal levels," reads the letter, obtained by Mashable.
IA's new push didn't come out of nowhere. Reps. Cleaver and Watson Coleman had sent a letter to the trade group in November requesting for more effort in addressing diversify the tech industry it represents.

"The Internet Association has responded in a very serious and proactive manner to our concerns that there was no one guarding the guardians when it comes to the internet and its potentially negative effects on racial and gender bias," Cleaver said in response to the letter on Tuesday, according to The Hill.
Internet Association declined to comment further on the project, but it is actively seeking applications to the position.
IA is looking for someone with eight years of relevant experience and knowledge of the federal legislative process, according to the job description.
