Welcome toThanks, schmitt arno and sofer jehoeda (eds), sexuality and eroticism among males in moslem societies I Love It, our series highlighting something onscreen we're obsessed with this week.
Last week, the final installment in the To All the Boys series arrived on Netflix. And while it gave longtime fans a glittery conclusion to Lara Jean and Peter's swoon-worthy romance, it also delivered some fabulous costumes.
All the movies in the To All the Boysseries have featured outfits to envy. Lara Jean (Lana Condor) wore tons of fun flannels, stripes, and sweaters in the first one. She dazzled in the wintery blue dress she wore to the Star Ball near the end of the second one. And in the final movie, both Lara Jean andher sisters served looks that weren't just mad cute, but also reflected their personalities.
The Covey sisters' outfits aren't interchangeable. Rather, each girl dresses in a way that reveals the subtleties in her character that make her fully unique. So with that considered, let's look at how To All the Boys: Forever and Alwaysnailed down who Margot (Janel Parrish), Lara Jean, and Kitty (Anna Cathcart) are as individuals through the things they wore.
Margot: The woman in charge
As the oldest Covey sister, Margot dresses the most maturely. She's the one who moved to Scotland for college — the one who leads by example — and the one who has her life figured out (well, sort of).
Because she's the most stable of the sisters, her looks, while stylish, are also the most reserved. Margot rocks solid colors in soft shades of blue, pink, and green. She can be seen wearing fitted skirts, classy V-necks, and even an elegant one-shoulder dress at her father's wedding.
Additionally, Margot's hair and makeup are the most consistent. Instead of experimenting with various styles, she is usually seen wearing soft curls and natural-looking makeup, which gives off the illusion that she knows what she's doing. Maybe she's young and likes to have a good time, but her wardrobe also suggests that she has things under control.
Lara Jean: The star of the show

To All the Boysis Lara Jean's love story. So naturally, our leading lady is going to wear clothing that's fun, flirty, and girlish.
Everything about Lara Jean's outfits gives off the vibe that she's carefree and in love. Polka dots? She rocks them. Bright colors? A must. Headbands, belts, and backpacks? You bet.
The clothing Lara Jean wears is eye-catching. And while there's nothing too out of the ordinary in her wardrobe, her looks serve as a reminder that she's the star of the story. For example, in the scene where Lara Jean rides on the couch in the subway, she stands out in a bright yellow dress that contrasts the muted greens and blues the other girls are wearing. Or when she goes to prom with Peter, her flowery gown contrasts the edginess of the one her best friend Chris (Madeleine Arthur) is wearing. Lara Jean's clothing finds a way to say "look at me" without actually trying too hard.
Kitty: The mischievous little sister

Lastly, there's Kitty — the youngest and boldest Covey sister.
Kitty was the one who had the guts to send out Lara Jean's love letters in the first movie. She's the one who takes chances and does what she feels like. If she wants to sport a watermelon shirt, she's going to. If she wants to put on a pair of fun overalls, she's going to. And if she wants to wear a suit to her dad's wedding, she's going to.
Kitty also has the most fun with her hair, frequently wearing it up in high ponytails and pigtails and accenting it with colorful barrettes and scrunchies. Her confident personality might add a ton of color to the To All the Boysseries, but so do her clothing. One look at her, and you knowshe has some grand scheme up her sleeve.
