People turned out in droves to cheer the team on as they rode atop floats, on their way to a ceremony on the steps of New York City's City Hall. After the parade, the team was treated to a victory ceremony on the steps of City Hall, where the party continued. The team got big-time introductions as well as being given keys to the city by NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio.

One notable moment came when U.S. Soccer's Carlos Cordeiro addressed the equal pay debate, saying, "We believe at U.S. Soccer that all female athletes deserve fair and equitable pay and together we can get this done."

Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, and coach Jill Ellis gave quick speeches but the grand finale came from Rapinoe, the breakout star of the 2019 World Cup, who brought the events to a rousing close and a note of inspiration.

"This is my charge to everyone. We have to be better. We have to love more, hate less. We've got to listen more and talk less. We've got to know that this is everybody's responsibility," Rapinoe said.

She added later, "Step outside yourself. Be more, be better, be bigger than you've ever been before."
